May I direct you to this thread?
I didn't think it was my ISP at first, either. It was.
What was helpful for me was pingplotting the route to Tranquillity and watching the packet loss, which was partly about 80% in my case. |

Thanks for linking a 30 page post that i have already read that does nothing to fix my problem. Do you work for CCP??
Then why not post in that thread that deals with your exact problem over 30 pages, but post a new one in GD?
Is it because you are special? |

Okay, I'm going to bite on this one:
What exactly do you expect CCP to do? Say there is some kind of hangup between your router and the first splitter owned by your local ISP.
Do you need some dev to call your ISP and tell them your problem? Or should they fly out and revamp your ISPs infrastructure alltogether?
I do not want to sound arrogant or whatever, but what do you want them to do? Even if it is caused by something in the game (which I doubt), shoudn't everyone be affected?
I am saying this because, when I had this issue, I was at first 100% certain the problem was with EVE, I had some pleasant conversations and technical help via the petitioning system and finally found out the problem was between 2 of the ISPs routers.
They refused to fix it, so I switched to a cable based ISP and never had any disconnect since.
P.S.: I also could play every other game just fine (except BFBC2, which was more or less the same in regards to disconnects) and I even had my full DL speed. |

Rena Emishi wrote: Fix what ever is causing the problem. I have no issues with any other games my internet works fine. So even if the problem is being caused by my ISP- eve devs should fix the way their game is interacting with my ISP.
If my pc and isp can can run any other game the problem lies with EVE, simple as that.
Okay, let me use a simple analogy here:
You buy a new car and it runs great. Then, one day, you accidently pump the wrong fuel and the car breaks down.
What will you do? Will you change the fuel you use or will you ask the car manufacturer to make the car work with the bad fuel simply because "I am the customer and I will choose who is responsible myself"?

Better, I think: You buy a new car and it runs great. While driving down the road one day, you come to a river crossing and the bridge is out. You send a nastygram to the car manufacturer and insist that they do something about the bridge. You never have this problem while driving your other cars to other places. Still an imperfect analogy, but yeah, expecting CCP to fix any and all transit issues is exactly this stupid.
Well said.
Of course asking never hurts and CCP might try to help you pinpoint the problem, if you ask nicely via petition. At least I received some really helpful replies from a GM when I had this issue. |

What everyone who has these issues expects CCP to do is make Eve less sensitive to internet issues. We all know its possible because other games are not so sensitive. "If architects built buildings the way programmers wrote code, one woodpecker would destroy civilization." And that is what CCP has done. They have written client and server code that cannot deal with problems. We want them to write proper code, just like other game writers.
Okay, I can see your point - but the facts do not fully support it; only few people suffer from this problem, and judging from the answers here, it has mostly been fixed by changing the ISP/altering connection settings, not patches on CCP's side.
Sadly I can not comment on the quality of the underlying network code; but none of my friends ever had connection issues. CCP should, however, really think about specifying the error messages, if it is as easy as you said... |
